In the National Student Survey (NSE), students are asked to share their opinion about their course programme and institution via an online questionnaire.
Around 760,000 students of 66 institutions are invited to take part in the 2019 NSE. The goal of the NSE questionnaire is two-sided: to provide information for prospective students in choosing programmes and to institutions in setting policies.
The NSE is primarily a satisfaction survey using a Likert scale. Each student is asked to share how satisfied they are on a scale of 1 to 5, where 1 = very unsatisfied and 5 = very satisfied (and 6 = n/a). Additionally, the questionnaire includes several ‘clarification questions’, such as: ‘The number of testing moments (exams, reports, presentations, etc.) in your programme is: Far too few / Too few / Just right / Too many / Much too many.’
