In this specialisation you will develop all the practical and intellectual skills necessary to apply psychological knowledge to real-life problems in working environments and organisations.
In this one-year programme the emphasis is on translating theory into practice. Areas covered include cognitive enhancement and cognitive ergonomics. The knowledge you acquire can be used for optimising the cognitive capabilities of people of all ages, for giving advice on the optimal circumstances for performance and learning and for study of the effects of drugs on human performance. But also for developing accident-prevention programmes or user-friendly tools and interfaces as well as for improving decision-making processes.
Psychology: Child and Adolescent PsychologyIn this specialisation you will study the varied needs and difficulties experienced by children and adolescents, with a focus on both theory and practice.
This one-year programme offers intensive courses in developmental psychopathology and learning problems. You will also develop key skills for clinical and educational work with young people. In addition, you will be prepared for post-master's training programmes and employment in education and mental health institutions. The focus is on psychological and educational problems in childhood and adolescence, but a good understanding of atypical development requires a solid understanding of normal development.
Psychology: Clinical NeuropsychologyThis specialisation will provide you with both a theoretical background and practical training in neuropsychology and (clinical) neuropsychological research.
This one-year programme is grounded in the neurosciences relevant to neuropsychology with a strong focus on evidence-based practice. This means that you are taught to focus on the use of current best scientific evidence in making decisions about the care of individual patients, taking into account diagnostics, prognostics and interventions. The specialisation is suitable not only for students who wish to become professionally active in the field of clinical neuropsychology, for instance as a health care psychologist, clinical neuropsychologist or clinical psychologist. The programme is also suitable for students who are interested in a scientific career.
Psychology: Clinical PsychologyThis specialisation focuses on the assessment and treatment of mental disorders. The programme covers both the underlying theory and the acquisition of professional and research skills.
The one-year programme distinguishes itself by the fact that the teaching is not restricted to the functioning of psychological processes. Within a scientist-practitioner model insights are always translated into diagnostic and intervention issues. This means that you will not only develop your knowledge of psychology as a science, but that you will also learn to apply this knowledge in order to understand psychological problems and to develop effective interventions for dealing with them.
Psychology: Economic and Consumer PsychologyIn this specialisation you will gain insight into the psychological mechanisms that underlie many of our choices and decisions concerning consumption and other economic behaviour.
The one-year programme aims at providing you with comprehensive knowledge and excellent skills in economic and consumer psychology, which will enable you to work independently at a professional level in a relevant field. Questions that will be studied include: How do consumers decide what to buy? How rational are our choices? How do we sell our own products and ideas to others? As economic behaviour overlaps to a large extent with social behaviour, this master's specialisation has a lot to offer in answering these questions.
Psychology: Health PsychologyThis specialisation will provide you with the theoretical background and professional skills required for health psychology research and interventions.
The one-year programme distinguishes itself by the fact that the teaching is not restricted to the functioning of psychological processes. Within a scientist-practitioner model insights are always connected to their behavioural consequences. The aim is that you learn to understand self-regulation and behavioural control. This specialisation will provide advanced training including skills relevant to health promotion and disease prevention. Furthermore, you learn to apply the intervention methods to the well-being of the physically ill and the self-management of chronic diseases.
Psychology: Methodology and Statistics in PsychologyIn this specialisation you will learn to apply and understand the most up-to-date methods and statistics in psychological research.
The one-year programme distinguishes itself by the fact that the teaching is not restricted to the functioning of psychological processes. Within a scientist-practitioner model insights are always connected to their behavioural consequences and intervention issues. In this way you will not only build on your knowledge of psychology as a science, you will also learn to apply this knowledge in order to understand practical problems and to develop effective interventions for dealing with them. The curriculum covers both in-depth study of theory and the acquisition of professional and research skills.
Psychology: Occupational Health PsychologyThis specialisation focuses on the application of psychology to protect and promote the safety, health, and well-being of workers - with the aim to improve the quality of working life.
The one-year programme draws upon and integrates knowledge of several disciplines in psychology, to demonstrate the diversity of work within the multidisciplinary field of occupational health and safety. Integrated disciplines are cognitive psychology, health and clinical psychology and organisational psychology. This interdisciplinary approach and the combination of theory with analysis of realistic case studies make this specialisation distinctive and useful for a wide range of careers.
Psychology: Social and Organisational PsychologyIn this specialisation you will study behaviour in formal and informal groups, which will give you insight into how people's thoughts, feelings and decisions are influenced by other people.
The one-year programme has a core curriculum that integrates social and organisational theory and practice. Building on this common body of knowledge, you have the option to focus on different issues. You will choose specific topics for your course assignments, thesis and internship, or select specific elective courses, depending on your interests and ambitions. The staff offer a wide range of topics, with the option to participate in research programmes on cultural diversity, leadership, economic decision-making and environmental behaviour.
